Weekly News Splatter: May 16, 2010

It's been a slow news week for linguists.  I kinda wish another volcano with an unpronounceable name would explode soon....

On the plus side, the Endangered Language Fund announced the winners of their Native Voices Endowment grants, with some innovative new uses of technology being among the winners.  The Nez Perce, for example, used Nintendo DSi programs to encourage kids to learn more about their language and culture.  To read more, visit their website and click the May 2010 eNewsletter link in the bottom left hand corner.

And over at the New York Times, there is an interesting On Language column about "Quants."  Who are definitely not what I thought they were at first.
