Weekly News Splatter: May 24, 2010

We'll begin this wrap up of last week in Language and culture with a research piece that makes my Word of the Moment work want to curl up in a small ball and weep. Harry McCracken has provided us with a fascinating history of the word “fanboy,” even correcting the published etymologies. It's something that is rarely seen in the internet: original research.

Speaking of etymology, there is a new book, reviewed here by the Boston Globe, that presents a historical view of new English terms.
