Weekly News Splatter: June 21, 2010

First of all, a quick tip: If you're going to confess to insurance fraud in French, make sure the cop interviewing you doesn't speak seven languages.

The big news this week has been the launch of the Economist's new language blog, Johnson. As in Samuel Johnson, the noted English dictionary maker. Apparently, that's the first thing Brits think of when you say “Johnson.” And yes, an American reader already pointed out the (ahem) dialectical differences, which actually makes for some entertaining reading.
